Welcome to the Newport Model Railway Society website.
Please note that normally the "Club Goings On", and the "Hazelhurst 7mm Fine Scale" pages are updated weekly. Other sections are updated as and when.
The society was formed back in the frozen mists of time, well, the early 1960's, when some of the members were young and not old enough to know better. Now they are old enough, but still don't know any better and have become sad, train lovers - be it steam or otherwise. The rest of us are contented modellers. So, if either of these descriptions suits you ... then read on you've found a home!
Our 7mm finescale layout is named "Hazelhurst". It has a 35' scenic frontage and is in the process of being made into an oval layout, a change from its original fiddle yard to terminus format.
Weighbridge and Gates guarding entrance to Carriage Works.
When on exhibition, this layout is run to a timetable sequence. However, we are in need of more workers to get it finished, or rather, to a better standard of "finished".
Belle Vue, our P4 layout, has now been retired. However, P4 modelling will return in the future with Little Mill Junction. This will be a layout based upon the actual location and will be a departure for the club to model such a location. Research for this project is still on going.
Membership of the club falls into two categories, country and full membership. The cost of full membership is seventy five pounds per year payable during February of the new year. If you join later in the year then the subs reduce accordingly. Country membership is for those who wish to belong to the club, but cannot get to the club except every month or so. The cost is twenty-five pounds per annum.
We meet every Wednesday, after 8.00 pm and every Friday from 7.00 p.m. The clubrooms are heated and tea and coffee are always available. Biscuits and crisps are available, too. The clubrooms are situated in the Shaftesbury Community Centre in Evans Street, Newport. If you look at the "Sat" view of the map, our clubrooms are in the large whitish roofed building on the corner of Evans Street and Hoskins Street.
