Does anybody in the club have either of the books Operation Cornwall or Operation Torbay? Apparently they give details of workings of carriages that worked on the Manchester - Penzance/Paignton services.

No, not yet, Mike. It is available from Amazon but I'd like to see how much is relevant before shelling out £15.

BTW If you put Operation Cornwall  into Google now, the nmrs site is on the first page!

On the 7mm group there was a refernce to this book.

A reasonable amount of information is to be found in Passenger Train Formations 1923-1983 - LMS-LM Region by Clive S. Carter published by Ian Allan in 1987 ISBN 0 7110 1606 2.

It might include North and Weest formations

Hmm that sounds interesting. Published 1987 though so it might be a prob getting hold of a copy.

The book Dave quoted is still available at a reasonable cost. Leave it to after the end of Jan 2010 and I'll get a copy.

I've ordered a copy of Passenger Train Formations 1923-1983 - LMS-LM Region by Clive S. Carter published by Ian Allan in 1987 ISBN 0 7110 1606 2. from the library - they're getting it from Merthyr.

Also I'm getting a copy of a book on GW Train Formation and Carriage Workings (from Pencoed)
