Hi,

I've joined the  NMRS message board primarily because I'm very interested in watching the development of your P4 model of Little Mill. I'm originally from Abergavenny (although I now live much further North!) and have always had a fascination with the railways of the area. If I have any knowledge of any subjects being discussed I'll pitch in if that's ok with you all.

One thing that I did note was the discussion awhile ago of Pontypool Rd's 4500 tanks and what trains they were used on. I certainly have some photographic evidence of them at Abergavenny both shunting and on (surprisingly long) freight trains so I would guess that their use on main line trains shouldn't be discounted.

Welcome Tony,

Glad to hear that our LMJ project has spawned some interest. After a few years of incubation we're starting to build baseboards and trackwork but there is still several years' work left to do. And a lot of questions still to be answered!

I'd noticed that 5516, 5539 and 5573 were shedded at PpRd and that 4503 and 4533 had been seen on the branch at some time, but any further info would be very welcome. As would any info on trains running through LMJ in the mid fifties.

Cheers

Rod

Hi Rod,

It was your mention of your club's trainset on RMweb yesterday that got me interested. I've always had the notion that it might be nice to build a model of one of the stations north of Abergavenny in P4. Llanvihangel is probably the smallest and with DCC it should be possible to have the bankers drop off the trains in prototypical fashion!!

Anyway I digress.

Back to the '45's. I have photos of 4593, 5516, 5534 at Abergavenny. I've also seen a rather nice portrait of 4541 at Abergavenny in 1949. All were 86G engines at some point during their lives and the pics I have of 4593 and 5516 show them on class K goods trains in the down loop at Abergavenny Mon Rd. I'm not entirely sure what workings these are on but there was a daily Pickup that ran from PPRD to Pontrilas at this time and it *might* be the return working.

In the 1955 timetable there was a Class K from Pontrilas (dep 11.20)  to PpRd (arr 14.19); arr Abergavenny 12.17, dep 12.50; arr LMJ 13.50, dep 14.05.

Do the pics look like lunchtime? Sun in the right place ;)

The balancing working was PpRd dep 06.50 Pontrilas arr 9.44. This of course went straignt through LMJ.

Now, i must go back to getting Llanastr ready!

Cheers
