The "Boys" holiday in Leatherhead
|
We had been preparing for years to participate at this event. The great sadness was that our Secretary was so ill that he couldn't come away to play trains - TFC you were missed.
This is a pictorial story of our outing to Leatherhead ... to everyone who came and helped a huge thank you!
Here we are ready to go, full of hope and aspirations ... did anyone check to see if we'd packed the lights? NOPE!
Having got there safely - thanks Mr Chairman - we set up ... anyone notice anything missing ehhh?
Okay, so the coaches will free wheel, what about the engines?
So, having set up and established that the rolling stock had wheels, we went on a hunt ... the chairman and the youth section go looking for electricity, because it had escaped from the layout!
Fortunately, not everyone was taking this as seriously as others amongst us, were you! 'The Don' with some traditional Welsh cold tea and a warm welcome.
So, that night the youth section hatched a plan to go shopping for some new lights for the layout. Thank goodness for Tescos Extra, but why did it have to be at one o'clock in the morning! Still we had lights for the Saturday - thanks lads!
The youth section and an EWS driver (of good character) look pleased with themselves - why?
So began the fun, and lo the crowds arrived ...
Even if there is nothing moving on the layout.
Everyone who operates a layout will recognize this look on the EWS drivers face ... Will it, won't it, please do it, go on!!!!
And still they came ... Tall Tony T operates the engine shed, much to the disgust of young Harry!
The Fiddle Yard - where all the work goes on ... The fiddle yard came in for a bashing, stock all in the wrong places, engines left in the middle of the boards!
The club relic rumbled into view to drive a train or two or three or four or five ... you get the picture. The SAS were sent in after two hours to forcibly remove said relic, as he was being seen to enjoy himself too much and may go permanently blind!
Cold tea thermos at the ready!
I told you that plastic cup was not an artificial limb, but only just I think
A well known trader seen slinking away from his mates... If it wasn't for Bill's coach bogies most of the stock would still be on work benches waiting to be fixed! Nice one Bill, but when are the 9F coupling rods due?
A special tanks to the borstal coordinator for letting the Newport Young Offenders out again ...
We could not have managed on Sunday without you - big thanks, hope you had a good trip home.
The Scaleforum Storm Troopers

To those who came, to those who helped and were unable to come, my heartfelt thanks. For some of us you helped realize an ambition.
And of course theres always ....
